Position Summary
An Industrial Resources Machine Design Engineer creates the mechanical design for automated machinery using 3d modeling software, creates 2d build layout and print sets, and troubleshoots equipment design during the build process. The role interfaces with the controls engineers, machine builders, fabricators, and customers.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop 3D designs per direction from business development, customer specifications, and project scope.
- Generate detailed assembly drawings and component drawings for fabrication.
- Create BOMs for purchasing.
- Update 3D models, print sets, and BOMs after a machine is finalized.
- Create operation manuals for equipment/lines.
- Interface with controls engineering for the design of pneumatics, hydraulic, and electrical systems and components.
- Support the shop floor during fabrication and assembly to troubleshoot and implement changes.
- Mentor junior engineers and technical staff and guide the company’s technical direction.
- Create and maintain standards and templates.
- Drive project execution: timing, budget, and standards.
- Manage outsourced partners (mechanical design and detailing) as needed.
Competencies
- 3+ years of experience in specialty equipment design.
- Proficiency with Autodesk Inventor 3d modeling software.
- Experience with Solidworks or PTC Creo will be considered in lieu of Autodesk Inventor.
- Fundamental understanding of hydraulics, pneumatics, electrical, and mechanical systems.
- Understanding of steel cutting, fabrication, welding, and machining.
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or product design is a plus.

Physical Demands
Ability to lift 30 pounds repeatedly and to be physically capable of performing the essential functions of the position, with our without reasonable accommodations, without posing a direct threat to the health and safety of the individual or others.
Shift Hours
1st Shift, M-F, 40-45 hours/week average, occasional overtime as required.
Travel:
- Travel will be required (customer site visits and possibly customer installation sites). Travel expected to be less than 10%-usually in 1-day to 1-week increments in the continental united states, with possible trips to Canada and Mexico.
- Must be able/willing to fly through the United States.
- Must have or be able to get a US Passport.
Customer Locations: Major metropolitan areas throughout the USA (98%), with occasional customers in Canada and Mexico (2%)
