Position Summary
An Industrial Resources Controls Engineer creates electrical hardware designs for automated machinery, writes PLC programs, and performs startup and debug of new equipment. The role interfaces with the mechanical designers, machine builders, electricians, and customers.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead design of controls systems: schematics, software, pneumatics, hydraulics.
- Design electrical schematics using AutoCAD Electrical.
- Program PLCs and HMIs to customer specifications integrating sensors, vision, and motion systems.
- Remotely connect to systems in the field to provide program updates, and help troubleshoot problems.
- Define I/O for PLCs and robots.
- Support system startups, debug, commissioning, and customer employee training.
- Mentor junior engineers and technical staff, and guide the company’s technical direction.
- Perform pneumatic/electrical calculations.
- Create and maintain standards and templates.
- Drive project execution: timing, budget, and standards.
- Manage outsourced partners (panel build, controls engineering, robot programming) as needed.
Competencies
- 3+ years of experience in controls engineering.
- Proficiency with Allen Bradley Rockwell Automation Studio 5000 and/or Siemens TIA Portal.
- AutoCAD Electrical experience required. Experience with E-Plan is a plus.
- Experience with 3d modeling software (Autodesk Inventor or similar) is a plus.
- Experience with ASi and EtherNet/Ip communication protocols.

Physical Demands

Shift Hours
1st Shift, M-F, 40-45 hours/week average, occasional overtime as required.
Travel:
- Travel will be required (equipment installations). Travel expected to be 20%-30%, usually in 1-week increments in the continental united states, with possible trips to Canada and Mexico.
- Must be able/willing to fly through the united states.
- Must have or be able to get an US Passport.
- Must be able to enter and work in ITAR facilities in the United States.
Office Location: 2685 Northridge Drive NW, Grand Rapids, MI
Customer Locations: Major metropolitan areas throughout the USA, with occasional customers in Canada and Mexico.
