Summary:
Grand Valley State University's College of Health Professions (CHP) position of Assistant Dean for Budget and Finance is an Administrative Professional (12 month) position that supports the continuing growth of the College. This role is responsible for managing the College resources: human, financial, and capital. The starting date for this position will be as soon as possible but not later than August 6, 2025.
Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business, or higher education financial management.
• Outstanding organizational skills and the ability to complete projects on a timely basis and to manage multiple priorities.
• Experience in monitoring, analyzing, and reporting on fiscal resources.
• Experience with budgeting cycles, budget development, financial management, financial modeling, and operational forecasting.
• Effective oral, written, and collaborative skills with a collegial communication aptitude.
• Teamwork experience.
• Excellent analytical abilities to assess complex financial information.
• Ability to work without functional supervision.
• Experience with Workday, Banner or other accounting/budgeting systems.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Master's degree in Accounting, Business, or higher education financial management.
• Experience in management of financial resources, hiring processes, and Workday functions.
• Experience in financial aspects of grants and contracts including compliance with funding regulations and post-award administration.
• Experience in supervising teams.
Responsibilities:
• Human Resources
• Track current state of faculty and staff positions.
• Monitor expected and phased retirements for future planning.
• Develop, manage, and implement budget and faculty line requests to the Provost.
• Act as the point of contact within the college for search committee chairs.
• Oversee hiring processes to maintain consistency with hiring (e.g., offers, onboarding, oversight).
• Facilitate the salary incentive plan, identify market and compression adjustments, and approve annual salary letters.
• Financial Resources
• Manage the CHP budget.
• Assess and monitor budgets for all CHP units and programs.
• Approve and oversee financial systems access for the CHP.
• Approve program requisitions, invoices and expenses as required of the Cost Center Manager.
• Manage and oversee the annual budget allocation process, including planning, communication, and implementation.
• Serve as the liaison with Business & Finance and the Budget offices to resolve budget and accounting issues.
• Develop the strategic funding plans for the Dean Leadership Team's initiatives and projects
• Provide fiscal data to support CHP's accreditation needs.
• Monitor and evaluate endowment and spending accounts.
• Track grant accounts and spending.
• Act as the point of contact within the CHP regarding financial management for grants and contracts.
• Provide training to CHP leadership and staff related to managing departmental resources aligned with GVSU's accounting practices and guidelines.
• Brief the Dean Leadership Team on CHP budget and financial issues.
• Provide specialized financial analysis and reports as needed.
• Capital Resources
• Work with an associate dean to maintain an updated list of all equipment, date of purchase, expected lifetime, expected date of replacement, etc.
• Create and maintain a 5-year plan for equipment needs.
• Work with CHP leadership, faculty, and staff to develop timelines for equipment replacement.
• Work with CHP leadership, faculty, and staff on new equipment purchases.
• Monitor the current state of IT resources and create and maintain a 5-year plan for IT needs and replacements.
• Other Duties
• Performs other duties as required/assigned by leadership.
The position reports to the Dean of the CHP.
Working Conditions:
Normal office environment. Some travel may be required. May require work beyond the typical 40-hour work week and outside of the 8:00 - 5:00 workday.
This is considered a full-time position with benefits. Minimum salary is $80,000 and commensurate with experience.
