This position serves as a liaison for the GVSU Battle Creek Regional Outreach Center (BCROC) on GVSU's Allendale and Grand Rapids campuses. This position is in-person and works closely with BCROC on events, programming, initiatives, and will be a resource for prospective students from Battle Creek and Southwest Michigan and those matriculating to GVSU. This role also supports the W.K. Kellogg Foundation (WKKF) and Battle Creek Public Schools (BCPS) Health and Teacher Education Pipeline Scholars through individualized advising and support programs.

 

Primary Duties:

 

• Serves as liaison for GVSU Battle Creek Regional Outreach Center (BCROC) on GVSU's campuses.

• Works collaboratively with BCROC on organizing executing events, programing, and initiatives on campus and within the region.

• Organizes, arranges, and leads activities for all GVSU campuses, including but not limited to, visits and activities for prospective students from Battle Creek and Southwest Michigan.

• Assists with BCROC events in Battle Creek and throughout Southwest Michigan that informs and recruits prospective students to GVSU.

• Provides career and academic advising to learners from the Southwest Michigan region.

• Guides WKKF and BCPS Health and Teacher Education Pipeline Scholars with matriculation, acclimatization, and graduation by:

• Assisting with the scholarship application and review process.

• Assisting with planning and implementation of scholar events, including but not limited to luncheon celebration, scholar orientation, and campus fall welcome.

• Regularly facilitating one-on-one engagements with each pipeline scholar on campus and provides support to ensure student retention, security, persistence, and success.

• Providing career and academic advising to pipeline scholars.

• Designing and implementing support programs including faculty mentorship and advising sessions.

• Performing regular assessments and monitor progress.

• Providing advising and support to pipeline scholars experiencing academic difficulty

• Guiding pipeline scholars towards self-sufficiency on campus and within the community.

• Connecting pipeline scholars with campus resources in an effort to achieve academic success.

• Educating pipeline students on appropriate resources, support services and experiences to facilitate academic and personal success based on individual needs.

• Supporting pipeline scholar with their requirement of at least one internship experience in the Battle Creek.

• Developing further resources and support for pipeline scholars.

• Assists learners from Southwest Michigan with financial aid needs and processes.

• Develops support material and resources for pipeline scholars and students from Southwest Michigan.

• Regularly engages with organizations and individuals who provide support for students on campus.

• Supports other WKKF grant initiatives as needed.

• Performs other duties as required/assigned by leadership.

 

Required knowledge, skills, and abilities:

 

• Bachelor's degree required.

• Demonstrated experience assisting students from traditionally under-served backgrounds including, but not limited to first generation, low-income, ethnically diverse and/or students with disabilities, to identify career opportunities, the process to investigate and develop a plan to achieve.

• Demonstrated understanding of student development and developmental advising theories.

• Strong communication and organizational skills.

• Ability to work both autonomously and as a member of a team that includes external partners.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and Outlook.

 

Preferred knowledge, skills, and abilities:

 

• Master's degree, particularly one in an academic advising related field (College Student Affairs, Adult & Higher Education, Educational Leadership, Counseling, etc.).

• A minimum of one (1) year of experience working within a K-12 and/or higher education setting.

• At least two (2) years of demonstrated academic advising experience in higher education.

• Understanding of student transition and success issues, especially with first-generation preferred.

• Understanding of trauma informed approaches for teaching and advising preferred.

• Experience with recruitment and orientation of new students.

• Experience building partnerships with community colleges and other higher education institutions.

• Familiarity with computer student information systems and web-based records and registration programs (Banner, Degree Works, OnBase, etc.) preferred.

 

Working conditions: Normal office environment. Some travel may be required.

 

Salary & Benefits: Salary Range $54,000 - $56,000, commensurate with experience.
