About us: Grand Rapids Community Media Center (GRCMC) is a nonprofit media organization, dedicated to building community through media providing avenues for self-expression, uniting diverse points of view. GRCMC programming includes public-access television stations GRTV and LiveWire, community radio station 88.1FM WYCE, community venue Wealthy Theatre, Web Development Services for nonprofits, and the local online news platform The Rapidian.

About the role:    The WYCE Programming & Operations Coordinator assists in day-to-day and administrative activities within the WYCE Programming and Operations Department. Regular duties include Recording and scheduling of regular programming, underwriting messages, and other special programming.  This position is additionally responsible for planning, creating, scheduling, and overseeing all social media activities. Additionally, this position supports the station manager with respect to preparing underwriting proposals for clients and scheduling underwriting for broadcast.

Responsibilities:

  1. Assist with daily programming and operations administrative duties, including supporting department directors and providing communications throughout the department regarding evaluating and adding new music releases for the station’s digital music library, plus support with scheduling on-air promotions, special programs, events, shift changes, staffing needs, and various fundraising duties. 
  2. Contribute to digital and on-air promotion and branding by writing and producing station promos and occasional recorded underwriting spots.
  3. Assist with the training and onboarding of new volunteer WYCE programmers.
  4. Assist the programming and operations department with managing and updating all digital content, including the website and listening app.
  5. Work with station leadership on the planning and execution of WYCE social media strategies and the creation and scheduling of various social media posts in a timely manner.
  6. Assist with listener correspondence and general program inquiries.
  7. As needed, assist with the planning and implementation of on-air fundraisers, including audio production, on-air pitching, program hosting, and other related fundraising duties.
  8. Assist station leadership with preparing materials for staff, programming meetings, and outside events, including slide presentations, handouts, and other materials.
  9. Assist leadership with the planning, organizing, and executing of all outside station promotions and events.
  10. Assist with programming department and staff updates: maintaining a log of outside station activities, events, presentations, interviews, live performances, changes, special programming, awards, etc.
  11. Assist the station manager and programming and operations director with the planning and executing of special live station events, fundraisers, and special programming.
  12. Attend station events as requested and other duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications

Certain skills and qualifications are essential to excel as a Programming & Operations Coordinator. Here are some key requirements:

  • MINIMUM: This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent and at least two years of related experience. Additional education may not substitute for this experience requirement
  • PREFERRED: Previous experience with social media management and content creation
